This is Galaxy Hero, a bullet-hell shooter game I made for two game jams at once! Specifically, these are the DOS Games Fall Jam and the 32-Bit Jam.

Control your ship and fight and make your way through lots of enemies and countless of bullets! Save the galaxy and become a hero!

This game also has no end so you can continue playing for as long as you want!

The game is supposed to feel like it can run on old consoles like the PS1 or the Sega Saturn and give a sort of '90s or '80s vibe of gameplay.

Well, I hope you will enjoy this game :)

But wait! Before you go playing... you need to learn the controls!

Here they are:

Z - Shoot

Arrow keys -  Move and navigate through menu

Enter key - To press buttons in the menu

Have fun!

🥇 Score: 130,331

The game is pretty repetitive without much sense of progress and the powerups are pretty confusing - I can't tell health from the 100 energy powerups each enemy spawns and I really don't know what the energy powerups did :-)

It's a good start, the controls are direct and responsive, sure oyu can build up on it.

Hope this feedback helps! :-)

(oh, and why is the player ship flying backwards?)

You're right, it is repetitive - there are only about 10 possible scenarios of enemies...

The energy powerups increase your score btw. And I shouldnt've really made the health pickup more visible.

But thanks for the feedback :)

(and why is the player ship flying backwards? i dunno, maybe the perspective in the art pack looks a bit weird)

It's backwards because of the movement direction of the parallax background. For a forward direction, the background art should go from top to bottom ðŸ™‚
